The 2014 Queen’s Baton made its first stop in New Delhi on 12 October 2013, honouring the long-held tradition of beginning the relay to the next Commonwealth Games from the city which hosted the previous edition of the prestigious event.

The members of the senior and junior men national hockey team were part of this Baton relay in Delhi. Junior players Mohammad Amir Khan and Lalit Upadhayay handled the Baton at DND flyover while the Baton was entering Uttar Pradesh on its way to Agra.

In the evening, the Baton was taken to Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium where Mr. Jiji Thomson, Director General Sports Authority of India and Olympians from various sports including hockey players P.R. Sreejesh, V.R. Raghunath, S.V. Sunil and Birendra Lakra were present.

On Sunday, the Baton was taken to Qutab Minar and hockey players P T Rao, S K Uthappa, Harbir Singh and Dharamvir Singh were present on the occasion. The Baton was brought by Commonwealth Games Federation Secretary and 2014 Glasgow CWG Vice-Chairman Louise Martin and baton left for Dhaka on Monday.
