Hojai (Assam), 10 January 2018: Day Six at the 8th Hockey India Sub Junior (Men) National Championship 2018 (B Division) saw some exciting matches that set the momentum for the knockout stage with just one more day of league matches remaining where teams will vie to top their respective pool table.

Hockey Rajasthan scored a scintillating 12-0 win against Goans Hockey in their Pool A match. It was Shivam (13’, 47’, 50’, 54’, 59’) and Praveen Singh (43’, 52’, 57, 69’, 70’) who scored maximum goals for the winning team while Romit Pal and Manish Choudhary scored a goal each to help Hockey Rajasthan gain the winning points. In another Pool B match, Hockey Him continued their win run as they beat Kerala Hockey 8-2. Sagar Nanda (7’, 58’, 68’) and Neeraj Kumar Pandey (12’, 13’, 46’) starred in the match with a hat-trick of goals each. Vipul Saini (20’) and Simranjeet Singh (69’) scored a goal each too for Hockey Him while Akhil Krishna K (21’) and Gokul KR (55’) scored for Kerala Hockey (55’).

In a closely-fought Pool A encounter, Telangana Hockey edged past The Mumbai Hockey Association Ltd with a 4-3 win. It was the team from Mumbai who opened the scoreboard in the 27th minute when Pratyush Tiwari converted a PC to earn his team a 1-0 lead but the following minutes saw Telangana Hockey bounce back with three back-to-back goals by Sharib Ahmed (34’) and Dharamvir Chand Bhavani (37’ and 38’) to take 3-1 lead. The Mumbai Hockey Association Ltd narrowed the gap with a field goal via Dilip Vishwakarma in the 43rd minute but conceding a PC in the 48th minute cost them as it was well-converted by Telangana Hockey’s Santhosh Nanavath.  Though The Mumbai Hockey Association Ltd didn’t lose hope and scored a 70th minute goal through Faraz Tadvi, it was not enough to win the match.

Hockey Coorg, on the other hand, notched up a big 10-0 win against Vidarbha Hockey Association in their Pool C match. Skipper Yashwanth KM (18’, 21’, 22’, 39’, 66’) was brilliant as he scored five goals in Hockey Coorg’s win while Rakshith Kariyappa AD (41’, 45’) and Gyan Ganapathy BB (3’, 55’) scored twice. Chetan MK (14’) was the other goal scorer who helped Hockey Coorg register the win.

In a Pool C match, Bengal Hockey Association beat Hockey Puducherry 7-0. Sagar Kumar (5’), Lorik Pal (24’), skipper Siddharth Kumar (25’, 55’), Sahil Shaw (66’), Manjeet Singh Chauhan (68’) and Saik Khan (69’) were the ones to score in Bengal Hockey Association’s comfortable win.

In another match, Citizen Hockey XI lost 0-1 to hosts Hockey Assam. It was Ankit Kumar who scored the lone goal for Hockey Assam in the 33rd minute while the team’s defence ensured Citizen Hockey XI didn’t convert successful circle entries to notch up a narrow win.
