Chief Minister of Punjab Mr. Prakash Singh Badalgets inaurgurated India’s newest world class blue turf hockey stadium in Sector-63 Mohali on 27 September 2013.
Mr. Prakash Singh Badal said that his Government is committed to raising the profile of hockey which had lost its sheen with the passage of time, saying that our Government would focus efforts towards the promotion of hockey in a big way so that Punjab can once again shine in India’s traditional sport.

“The newly built stadium would provide opportunities for young hockey players to excel and the portraits of the stalwarts of Punjab displayed in the stadium would give inspiration to the future generations” said Mr. Badal.

Deputy Chief Minister and President of Hockey Punjab Mr. Sukhbir Singh Badal said that the stadium was one of its kind across the globe. He said that there are plans to organise an international six-nation tournament in this stadium.

Hockey India President Ms. Mariamma Koshy also attended the inauguration ceremony.

Meanwhile, Punjab XI defeated the Rest of India 3-2 in an exciting exhibition match which offered a gala event to the hockey lovers. The Chief Minister announced a cash reward of Rs five lakh each to both the teams.

The world class stadium built on an area of 11.8 acres at an estimated cost of Rs. 42 crore and boosts a seating capacity of 15,000 people will add another stroke of brilliance to the sporting facilities in the State. The hockey stadium has all the world class amenities including a club house, restaurant and gym.
