Netherlands beat Germany 4-1 at the Hero Men’s Champions Trophy

Bhubaneswar, 7 December 2014: The Netherlands produced a performance of speed and precision to outdo Germany’s fresh-faced side 4-1 (3-0) to take the lead in Pool B going into their final group game with India in Bhubaneswar.

The Dutch were in cruise control by half-time, building a 3-0 lead. Constantijn Jonker got the first with a reverse stick finish from the top of the circle after Robbert Kemperman’s exquisite through-ball on 11 minutes

Germany had their chances in the second quarter, notably from Jonas Gomoll’s trickery while Mats Grambusch drew the best from the Dutch goalkeeper Jaap Stockmann.

Moritz Furste saved a corner flick on the line but the Oranje were 2-0 ahead when Diede van Puffelen scored his second goal in two games from close range from a left wing attack.

Rogier Hofman’s thunderous shot made it 3-0 at half-time and that is how it remained through the third period as Stockmann made another great stop to keep his clean sheet in tact. And it was 4-0 with nine minutes left when Jeroen Herzberger simply finished off a pacy attack, touching in Seve van Ass’s backhand cross.

Florian Fuchs pulled one back in impudent fashion with five minutes left but it proved mere consolation. It secured a second successive win for the Dutch who lead Pool B overnight with six points.

Speaking post the match ‘Man of the Match’ Robert van set Horst, Netherlands Captain said “It is not easy to beat Germany and this match today was equally tough. Our plan was to simply stay focussed throughout the match and create as many opportunities as possible. It was more of our counter attacks against Germany that helped us take the lead and win the game.”

Speaking on the performance of the team Hauke Tobias, Germany said “We played very good against a world class team, unfortunately we failed to score. It was a learning experience for us. We need to focus on our strength as well as weakness for next the match with Argentina”.

Speaking on the team’s win Netherland Coach Caldas Max said “It was a fantastic match and the boys enjoyed the game. They played very well but today it was not their day. It’s great to get such support from a passionate crowd of Bhubaneswar. We are looking to our next game with India and we will aim to keep the same tempo in future matches”.

Speaking on his team’s performance, Germany Coach Markus Weise’s said “The match was a perfect learning for everyone today. We did not play consistently; we played good quarters but then suddenly the bad one where we conceded three goals. The Dutch side played superbly and it was our bad day, but i am sure we will come back strongly in the next game.
