NEW DELHI, 5 February 2013: Hockey India is pleased to announce its Senior Women Hockey team to participate in the Hero Hockey World League Round 2 to be held at Major DhyanChand National Stadium in New Delhi from 18- 24February 2013.

 

Selection Trials for the team were conducted at Netaji Subash National Institute of Sports, Patiala on 19 January 2013 witnessed by Hockey India Selectors Col. Balbir Singh and Surinder Kaur alongwith Government Observer Harbinder Singh and Chief Coach Neil Hawgood.

 

The 18 member squad will be captained by Ritu Rani while Chanchan Devi will be the Vice – Captain.

 

The camp for the preparations of the Hero Hockey World league Round 2 is already in progress from 4 January 2013 and will continue till the commencement of the tournament.

 

The six team tournament will be contested by the hosts India (FIH World Ranking 12), Japan (9), Russia (20), Malaysia (22), Kazakhstan (33) and Fiji (59).

The inaugural match of the league will be played between women teams of Japan and Fiji on 18 February. The Indian Women team will take on Kazakhstan in their first match on 18 February, followed by Malaysia (19 Feb), Fiji (21 Feb), Japan (22 Feb) and Russia (24 Feb).

 

This tournament is part of the qualification league for the FIH Hockey Women’s World Cup 2014 to be held in The Hague, Netherlands.
