7th February, 2016, Guwahati: The Indian Women Hockey team opened their account with authority in 12th South Asian Games with a 24-0 win over Nepal at Moullana MD. Tayabullah Hockey Stadium, Bhetapara in Guwahati, Assam.

The first half started with the Indian Eves on the front foot since the opening minute of the game. The first goal came from the stick of Rani in the 2nd minute of the game. India continued to play a pressing game and soon were rewarded with a goal within 2 minutes through a penalty corner conversion from Jaspreet Kaur. The first few goals boosted the confidence of the team to play an even more pressing game. The goals started to come thick and fast with the half time score ending at 10-0 in favour of India.

The second half was a similar story. The Indian team just took six minutes to score the next goal of the match which came from a penalty corner conversion by Gurji Kaur. The Nepal defence looked clueless in front of the attacking display by the Indian Eves as they went on to score 13 more goals. The match ended with a score line of 24-0 in favour of India.

Punam Barla and Soundarya Yendala were the top scorers of the match with 4 goals each to their name. Neha Goyal, Deepika, Jaspreet Kaur and Rani scored 3 goals each in the match. Gurji Kaur and Preeti Dubey scored a brace each in the match to complete the perfect attacking performance.

Indian Women Hockey team will play their next match of the 12th South Asian Games against Sri Lanka on 8th February, 2016.
