Pune, 13th March: Day 1 of the 14th Hockey India Senior Women National Championship saw Hockey Madhya Pradesh, Hockey Jharkhand, Hockey Bengal, Hockey Unit of Tamil Nadu, Hockey Karnataka and Hockey Maharashtra win their respective matches at the Major Dhyanchand Hockey Stadium Pimpri, Pune.

Defending Champions Hockey Madhya Pradesh brings up a comfortable win:
In the tournament opener, Hockey Madhya Pradesh defeated Chhattisgarh Hockey 8-0 in their Pool A game. Hritika Singh (11’, 17’, 22’, 33’) led the goalscoring spree with four goals while Preeti Dubey (24’), Aishwarya Chavan (46’), Anjali Gautam (48’) and Sadhna Sengar (57’) scored a goal each for Hockey Madhya Pradesh. 

Hockey Jharkhand starts their tournament with a commanding win:
The second game of the day was a Pool C game that saw Hockey Jharkhand defeat Hockey Andhra Pradesh 13-0. Indian Team forward Sangita Kumari (24’, 54’, 57’, 60’) fired in four goals, Deepika Soreng (18’, 35’) and Dipti Toppo (24’, 42’) scored braces, while Mahima Tete (4’), Indian Team midfielder Salima Tete (25’), Rajni Kerketta (35’), Dipti Kullu (38’) and Nikki Kullu (39’) scored a goal each for Hockey Jharkhand.

Hockey Bengal gets the better of Hockey Gujarat:
In the third match of the day, Hockey Bengal defeated Hockey Gujarat 28-0 in their Pool H clash. Horo Sanjna (12’, 20’, 34’, 47’, 47’, 53’, 54’, 54’) scored a staggering eight goals, Sushmita Panna (13’, 21’, 36’, 55’, 57’) scored five goals, Maxima Toppo (24’, 28’, 44’, 58’) scored four goals, Lily Oram (32’, 32’, 45’) scored a hat-trick, Monika Nag (7’, 15’), Sushmita Gandha (23’, 55’) and Kavita (40’, 59’) scored braces and Nidhi Sahni (41’) and Captain Anjna Dungdung (49’) scored a goal each for Hockey Bengal.

Hockey Unit of Tamil Nadu overcomes Telangana Hockey:
The fourth game of the day saw Hockey Unit of Tamil Nadu defeat Telangana Hockey 2-1 in their Pool H clash. Soniya S (23’) scored a field goal in the first quarter for Hockey Unit of Tamil Nadu but Varshitha Muppala (39’) equalized for Telangana Hockey in the third quarter. With the match evenly poised Soniya S (51’) netted another field goal to help Hockey Unit of Tamil Nadu win the game.

Hockey Karnataka records comprehensive win over Hockey Uttarakhand:
The fifth game of the day was a Pool G match that saw Hockey Karnataka defeat Hockey Uttarakhand 6-0. Captain of Hockey Karnataka Kruthika SP (7’, 34’) led from the front with a brace while MG Yashika (8’), BN Poojitha (22’), Chandana J (23’) and Anjali H R (48’) contributed a goal each in their team’s win.

Hockey Maharashtra off to a winning start:
Hosts Hockey Maharashtra defeated Kerala Hockey 10-0 in their Pool B game which was the final game of the day. Rutuja Dadaso Pisal (18’, 44’, 53’, 58’) was their highest scorer with four goals, while Priyanka Wankhede (4’), Indian Team defender Akshata Abaso Dhekale (8’), Durga Raju Shinde (20’), Bhavana Khade (26’), Indian Team midfielder who is also Captain of Hockey Maharashtra Vaishnavi Vitthal Phalke (46’) and Yogita Bora (51’) scored a goal each for the hosts.
