Jabalpur, 10 January 2019: The first day at the 9th Hockey India Junior National Hockey Championship 2019 (Men) B Division in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh saw Chhattisgarh Hockey, Sports Authority of Gujarat – Hockey Academy, Hockey Madhya Pradesh, Bengal Hockey Association register victories in their respective round robin matches.

In the first match of the day, Chhattisgarh Hockey beat Assam Hockey 3-1 in their Pool B match. Sonu Nishad (12′), Keshav Tyagi (45′) and Arjun Yadav (54′) scored a goal apiece after Assam Hockey took lead early in the game via Ankit Kumar in the fifth minute.

In Pool C match, second of the day, Sports Authority of Gujarat – Hockey Academy put up a clinical performance winning 3-1 against Hockey Coorg. Sports Authority of Gujarat – Hockey Academy scored two goals in the first five minutes via Shyam Yadav (3′) and Sahil Katiyar (5′). Hockey Coorg tried to make a comeback when Nithin converted a penalty corner in the third quarter but fourth quarter saw the winners score the third of the game via Parth Jeed in 49th minute to seal the result.

Pool D’s first match saw home team Hockey Madhya Pradesh registering a comfortable 3-0 win against Andhra Hockey Association. Yogesh Kashyap (9′), Kuldeep Ajmawat (21′) and Shubham Swami (54′) scored a goal apiece in the home team’s first win.

Pool E saw Punjab National Bank beat Hockey Jammu & Kashmir 2-0. For the first two quarters neither of the teams could find the back of net. Sagar Nanda broke the deadlock in 40th minute for Punjab National Bank. Their lead was doubled via Uma Shankar in the 48th.
