Results from 2nd Khelo India Youth Games 2019 (Under 17 & Women)

Mumbai (Maharashtra), 13 January 2019: Action in the 2nd Khelo India Youth Games 2019 continued here at the Mahindra Hockey Stadium today into its seventh day in the Under-21 Men’s category which saw Haryana and Odisha win their respective Semi-Final matches to advance to the Final of the competition. Whereas, it was Punjab who won their match in the Under-17 Women’s category, with Haryana and Uttar Pradesh also winning their Under-21 Women’s category matches.

In the Under-21 Men’s category, it was Haryana who defeated Punjab 3-1 in the first Semi-Final match to secure their place in the Final. Goals for Haryana were scored by skipper Mandeep Mor (12′), Yashdeep Siwach (45′) and Kuldeep (46′) while Karajwinder Singh (23′) scored Punjab’s only goal of the match.

In the second Semi-Final, Odisha produced a narrow 2-1 win over Uttar Pradesh to also advance to the Final. Odisha fired in two quick goals in the opening six minutes through Nilam Sanjeep Xess (4′) and Krishna Tirkey (6′) to maintain a firm hold on the game. Uttar Pradesh tried their best to make a comeback but could only score one goal through Manish Rajbhar in the 42nd minute.

The Final of the Under-21 Men’s competition will take place on Tuesday, 15 January 2019 where Odisha will take on Haryana at 1600hrs while Uttar Pradesh will face Punjab at 1400hrs in the third-place classification match.

In the Under-17 Women’s competition, Jharkhand and Chandigarh played out a 2-2 draw in Pool A after both the teams had won their respective opening matches yesterday. The match saw Jharkhand cancel out Chandigarh’s lead twice to earn themselves a draw. Goals for Chandigarh were scored by Kavita (13′) and Barkha (45′) while Ropni Kumari (38′) and Beauty Dung Dung (57′) scored for Jharkhand.

In the other Pool A match, it was Punjab who defeated Delhi 7-0 to register their first win of the competition. Punjab’s Simranjeet Kaur (34′, 40′, 43′, 46′) scored four goals for her team while Taranpreet Kaur (35′, 47′) and Sneha Sabharwal (21′) also contributed with goals.

Whereas, the Under-21 Women’s competition saw Haryana beat Punjab 3-2 in their Pool B match where goals for Haryana came through Amrinder Kaur (12′), Amandeep Kaur (20′) and Anu (52′) while Baljeet Kaur (26′, 43′) scored twice for Punjab.

In the other Pool B match of the day, it was Uttar Pradesh who defeated Chandigarh by a fine margin of 4-1. Goals for Uttar Pradesh were scored by Sonal Tiwari (10′, 45′), Anshika Singh (51′) and skipper Mumtaz Khan (55′) while Chandigarh’s captain Harmanpreet Kaur (21′) scored her team’s only goal.

In Pool A, both the matches ended in draws as Jharkhand and Odisha played out a goal-less draw to share the points, while Mizoram also drew their match with hosts Maharashtra 1-1. Mizoram scored first in the match in the 12th minute through Marina Lalramnghaki but Maharashtra’s Jessica Fernandes cancelled out their lead in the 13th minute.
