India strikes back; trounces Pakistan 6-0 in the third pool match of the 4th Sultan of Johor Cup 2014

Johor Bahru, Malaysia, 15 October 2014: Getting back in action, the Junior Indian Men Team defeated their arch-rivals Pakistan by 6-0 in the third pool match of the 4th Sultan of Johor Cup being played at Taman Daya Hockey Stadium in Johor Bahru, Malaysia today.

The Indian team dominated the game from the very beginning and created many opportunities to suppress any advancements of the opponent team. With the neat ball possession all the way through the match, it was their constant endeavor that bore fruit and India’s Imran Khan scored the first goal for India in the 22nd minute making no mistakes in converting a penalty corner. This gave India the desirable lead of 1-0 in the early minutes of the game. India rose again in the closing stages of the first half with Parvinder Singh striking a perfect field goal a minute before the half time break, to take the score to 2-0 for India.

The second half began with a lot more energy and dynamism as both the teams made a number of attempts to score. The third goal of the game came from the stick of Armaan Qureshi of India in the 49th minute. The score of 3-0 was soon escalated to 4-nil by Harmanpreet Singh of India who flawlessly converted a penalty corner into a goal, in the 53rd minute of the match. With the game in the concluding phase, Varun Kumar scored the fifth goal for India while Armaan Qureshi struck again, this time a penalty corner, to lead India to a thumping victory by 6-0 over Pakistan.

At the end of the game, the scores stood at 6-0 announcing a well-deserved win for the Indian Junior men Hockey Team over their opponents.

Commenting on the big triumph, Coach Mr. Harendra Singh said, “I am glad the boys are back in form and this overwhelming win will further boost their confidence. Although we started off with a few errors in the early minutes of the game, the team soon got over them and played the rest of the game with great endeavour, the result of which can be seen on the score board. The neat ball possession and error-free penalty conversions are signs of development in the team. I look forward to a similar play by the boys in the matches to come.”

India will now take on Malaysia in their fourth match on 16 October 2014 at 15:35 hrs (IST) and the match will be telecasted live on Star Sports 1.
