Hockey India congratulates Dr Narinder Dhruv Batra for being proposed to be elected as IOC Member

New Delhi, 23 May 2019: Hockey India on Thursday congratulated Dr Narinder Dhruv Batra, President, Indian Olympic Association, President, International Hockey Federation and former President, Hockey India on being proposed by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to be elected as it’s Member.

After becoming the first and the only Indian to lead the International Hockey Federation (FIH) as it’s President, Dr Batra who has been an integral leader of sports administration in India and leading the way with path-breaking initiatives, is among the ten members who have been proposed to be elected by the IOC as it’s Member by the Executive Board of the IOC.

Further, Dr. Narinder Dhruv Batra is the first Indian to be President of any Summer and Winter Olympic Body. He is also the only Indian to be jointly serving as President of International Federation as well as a National Olympic Committee (NOC). Only 15 members get elected to the IOC out of 207 NOC Members of the IOC. With this honour, Dr Batra becomes the only Indian serving as President International Federation, Member IOC as well as President NOC.

Congratulating Dr Batra on this rare honour, Mohd Mushtaque Ahmad, President, Hockey India said, “It is a befitting honour to a man who has been instrumental in sports administration in India and as the former President of Hockey India Dr Batra paved the way for revival of Hockey in the country.  While Indian sports climbing higher echelons with improved performances at the world level, having him as a Member in the IOC will prove beneficial for sports in the country.
