Haryana emerge Champion of the 3rd Hockey India Senior Women National Championship 2013

New Delhi, 30 April 2013: Haryana registered 4-1 victory over Railways in the final of the 3rd Hockey India Senior Women National Championship played at the Major Dhyan Chand Stadium in the Guru Gobind Singh Sports College, Lucknow on Tuesday.

Railways scored their opening goal through Amandeep Kaur in the 15th minute. After conceding an early goal, Haryana forwards played an attacking game and built pressure on their opponents. Haryana scored through Udita (34th & 65th min) and Narinder (47th & 49th min).

Railways wasted their scoring chances as they failed to convert 13 penalty corners.

In the earlier match, Jharkhand defeated Punjab 2-1 to finish third in the championship.

Jharkhand who led 1-0 at the half time, scored through Ebha Kerketta in the 30th minute by converting a penalty corner.  In the 37th minute Basanti Kachhap scored another goal for Jharkhand to take a 2-0 lead on the opponents. Punjab tried to reduce the margin in the 46th minute with the penalty corner converted by Sukhjit Kaur. After their first goal Punjab wasted a few scoring chances and failed to score any further goals.

Jharkhand showed appreciable fluency and purpose, applying pressure on Punjab, but the forwards were a let-down as they failed to cash in on the opening inside the striking circle.

Chief Guest Mr. Ram Karan Arya, Minister of State for Youth Affairs and Sports, Uttar Pradesh presented the winner’s trophy to the Haryana team.

Final – Haryana 4 (Udita 34, 65, Narinder 47, 49) beat Railways 1 (Amandeep Kaur 15)

 Third / Fourth Position – Jharkhand 2 (Ebha Kerketta 30, Basanti Kachhap 37) beat Punjab 1 (Sukhjit Kaur 46)
